Latrobe City Council has adopted the Moe Rail Precinct Masterplan with several changes to reflect the significant contribution made by the community during the consultation period.

New mayor elected

Cr Kellie O’Callaghan was elected Latrobe City’s new mayor at a special council meeting held on Monday night. Cr Sandy Kam was elected deputy mayor.

Cr O’Callaghan served as deputy mayor from December 2008 to December 2009. Cr O’Callaghan was elected to the Fifth Latrobe City Council in the 2008 local government election. Read more

Two options for performing arts venue

Two sites have been identified as options for a new Latrobe performing arts and convention centre, in a feasibility study released for public comment by council at Monday night’s meeting.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Kellie O’Callaghan, said both options identified in the Latrobe Performing Arts and Convention Centre Feasibility Study report are considered to be feasible. However, each offers a different experience for patrons and visitors. Read more

Water warning for bushfire season

Gippsland Water managing director David Mawer pointed to a number of factors that make reticulated water an unreliable water source during a bushfire.

“We have 17 water supply systems, all of which are designed to cope with peak seasonal demands and can continue to supply treated water in the event of short-term power outages,” Mr Mawer said. Read more

Ambassadors Cup tennis win

Gippsland’s domination of the recent Ambassadors Cup tournament is a compliment to the Academy for its positive influence on junior tennis within the region.

The Central Gippsland team defeated the East Gippsland team in the final. More significantly, they both relegated Barwon – regarded as Victoria’s premier junior region – back into third place. Read more

Falcons reappoint coaches

Falcons 2000 Soccer Club will be looking to build on the success of last season and will once again have Anthony Pardo (left) as Senior coach with Frank Gaudiano as Assistant Coach.

Winning the prestigious Charity Bowl last year was a fitting end to the 2009 season which also saw Pardo voted GSL Coach of the Year by his peers. Read more
