Medical students go warm and fuzzy

Students at the Gippsland Medical School of Monash University are well focused on a patient based approach that has lead them to acknowledge the anxiety that can be felt in particular by children when needing to visit their doctor.

With the assistance of students from Morwell Park Primary School these medical students are setting about changing some of these perceptions. Read more

New vehicle for Traralgon Fire Brigade

Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Services Danielle Green joined Deputy Premier Rob Hulls today in officially handing over the keys to a new $56,000 Nissan Patrol Forward Command Vehicle to the Traralgon West Fire Brigade.

The handover coincides with Fire Action Week, which aims at encouraging all Victorians to work together to help protect themselves and each other from the threat of bushfire. Read more

Hospital ball raises $100,000

Generous support from local businesses and the community has raised more than $100,000 for Latrobe Regional Hospital.

The money will go towards the hospital’s current campaign Operation LRH, which will purchase new equipment for the operating theatres. Read more

Smart Water grants available

Gippsland Water is encouraging its customers and stakeholders to apply for a Smart Water Fund grant to develop innovative water conservation, water recycling or biosolids management initiatives.

“With increasing pressure on water supplies, there is an ongoing need to find innovative ways to be smarter with our water use,” Gippsland Water managing director David Mawer said. Read more

Leading illustrator to visit

Children and adults from Latrobe City will be given the opportunity to learn more about the magic of writing and drawing directly from one of the craft’s masters, Leigh Hobbs, when he visits Traralgon Library on Wednesday 28 October 2009 from 4pm.

Latrobe City’s children’s services library officer, Noeline Grayden, said that Leigh Hobbs was a well-known artist and author best known for the children’s books he has written and illustrated featuring his characters ‘Old Tom’, ‘Horrible Harriet’, ‘Fiona The Pig’ and ‘Mr Chicken’. Read more

Gloria Whalan named top senior

Gloria Whalan is Latrobe City’s Senior Citizen of the Year.

Ms Whalan was recognised for her contribution to the community through her work with the Central Gippsland Aboriginal Health Services, Anglicare Victoria’s foster care program, the Victorian Permanent Care program, and Indigenous Art Gippsland TAFE. Read more
