Solar hot water rebate extended

The State Government has committed an additional $10 million to extend a popular rebate scheme that helps families in regional and rural Victoria switch to solar hot water.

Environment and Climate Change Minister Gavin Jennings said more than 15,000 household had already accessed the Regional Solar Hot Water Rebate Scheme. Read more

Students interested in studying business at Monash University Gippsland now have the opportunity to include an overseas learning experience in their course.

In 2010 the Bachelor of Business and Commerce (Global) will commence and is available to current Year 12 students through the VTAC process. Read more

Healthy ageing is researched at Monash

The rapid ageing of Australia’s population has increased attention on developing healthy ageing strategies for the over 50s.

Professor Helen Bartlett, Pro Vice-Chancellor at Monash University Gippsland is conducting research focused on healthy ageing. She said that “in recent years all levels of government have been involved in formulating strategies with a focus on improving the health of the older population with a direct impact on quality of life”. Community grants announced

Latrobe City Council has awarded more than $400,000 in community grants for 2009/10, with 164 community groups or organisations receiving the tick of approval for their applications.

Latrobe City Council mayor, Cr Lisa Price, said the funds offer support to organisations that are the backbone of our community. Read more

Cyclist and BMX rider awarded

Shannon McCurley won the July Junior Gippstar Award after being announced as Victorian Female Track Cyclist of the year.

Shannon had been an outstanding performer over the last year in open and under-age events, with places in four events at the Victorian track titles earlier in the year. Read more

Swimmers do well at country titles

Five Gippsland Sports Academy six swimmers at the Victorian Short Course Country titles are new to the Academy this year, but they are already showing top results.

Northe becomes principal for a day

While the thought might strike fear in the hearts of his former teachers, Morwell MLA Russell Northe proudly took part in the ACER Principal for a Day program today at Churchill North PS.

Taken under the wing of principal Debbie Edwards, Mr Northe interacted with staff and students in the classrooms, attended a peer coaching debrief and planning meeting, carried out yard supervision duties, observed a student-teacher instructional leadership session, prepared an article for the school newsletter and facilitated a parent meeting for a new enrolment.
