Tigers and Bombers to clash

Richmond and Essendon are expected to play near full-strength sides in the pre-season NAB challenge AFL match at Morwell tomorrow (March 13).

Latrobe City’s manager cultural and recreational liveability Grantley Switzer said the same two teams played in Morwell in 2005.

“The crowd that day was 14,000 and as both teams have significant followings locally, we are expecting another bumper crowd,” he said. Read more

Table tennis squad does well

Outstanding results were achieved at the table tennis squad’s first major tournament last weekend.

Twelve squad members played in the Junior Encouragement Tournament conducted by Table Tennis Victoria. For some squad members it was their first state-level competition. Read more

Cup matches kick off soccer season

The Gippsland Soccer League will this weekend begin the 2010 season campaign this weekend (March 13 – 14) with the first round of the historic senior cups.

The Battle of Britain senior cup has been running for over 50 years and is the oldest continually contested trophy in Victorian soccer. Read more

Swimming success at sprint titles

Five Academy swimmers competed with fine results at the Victorian Sprint Championships over the weekend.

They were Stephanie Morgan, Lily Collins, Kate Sommerfield, Elliot Shaw and Philip Blunt.

Lily won the 14-years breaststroke, swimming best times through the heats and finals. Kate was second in the same event for 16-years girls. Read more

Badminton success for Ryan

Ryan Venpin’s win in the mixed doubles was the highlight of last weekend’s Altona Junior Tournament. Ryan, in his first season with the Academy was surprised and delighted by the result.

Stephanie Treloar, with the Academy until last year, was runner up in the under-19 girls’ doubles. Read more

Pegasus Soccer Club is calling on all previous administrators, past/present players and supporters to search their records/draws or any where else for any old photos, pennants and any other memorabilia for the club to scan/copy then to archive — so that the history of the club, from the early days up to the present time won’t be lost forever.

Morwell to host AFL challenge

Latrobe City has been advised that, subject to a final ground inspection, a NAB Regional Challenge match will be held at the Morwell Football Ground, most likely on Saturday 13 March 2010.

Latrobe City’s general manager recreational and cultural liveability, Grantley Switzer, said that Morwell was one of several regional areas in Victoria and around the nation earmarked for these high-level pre-season games. Read more

Ambassadors Cup tennis win

Gippsland’s domination of the recent Ambassadors Cup tournament is a compliment to the Academy for its positive influence on junior tennis within the region.

The Central Gippsland team defeated the East Gippsland team in the final. More significantly, they both relegated Barwon – regarded as Victoria’s premier junior region – back into third place. Read more

Falcons reappoint coaches

Falcons 2000 Soccer Club will be looking to build on the success of last season and will once again have Anthony Pardo (left) as Senior coach with Frank Gaudiano as Assistant Coach.

Winning the prestigious Charity Bowl last year was a fitting end to the 2009 season which also saw Pardo voted GSL Coach of the Year by his peers. Read more

Junior badminton success

Stephanie Treloar had extremely good results at the recent Altona Junior Tournament where she paired in an U17 girls’ doubles win and was also a semi-finalist in the singles.

At Bendigo, two weeks earlier, Stephanie played in a higher age group, U19, again with considerable success. She and her partners had comfortable wins in both the girls’ and mixed doubles events. Read more
