Multicultural festival returns

The Immigration Park Multicultural Festival returns to Latrobe City and due to the success of last year’s event, it is now a two-day celebration packed with cultural and family activities.

The Gippsland Immigration Wall of Recognition Multicultural Festival will begin with exhibits and activities from 10.30am on Saturday, March 13 in Kernot Hall, Morwell. On stage school groups’ entertainment begins at 12 noon. Read more

Leading sculptor’s work displayed

Currently on at Latrobe Regional Gallery is ‘Objects to live by. The art of John Meade’ which is the first exhibition to review fifteen years of accomplishments from one of Australia’s leading sculptors.

Latrobe City’s arts director, Julie Adams, said that the medium of sculpture is rarely seen in both regional and state galleries in Australia so this exhibition is a must-see for visitors. Read more

Leading illustrator to visit

Children and adults from Latrobe City will be given the opportunity to learn more about the magic of writing and drawing directly from one of the craft’s masters, Leigh Hobbs, when he visits Traralgon Library on Wednesday 28 October 2009 from 4pm.

Latrobe City’s children’s services library officer, Noeline Grayden, said that Leigh Hobbs was a well-known artist and author best known for the children’s books he has written and illustrated featuring his characters ‘Old Tom’, ‘Horrible Harriet’, ‘Fiona The Pig’ and ‘Mr Chicken’. Read more

Children’s artwork on display

Artwork by grade five and six students from Morwell’s Sacred Heart Primary School is the latest to be displayed as part of the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre Foyer Exhibition program in Traralgon.

The newest exhibition is the first to showcase artwork done by primary school students, previously high school students have had their work displayed. Read more

Welcome Strangers heading to Tyers

Free screening of Black Balloon

As part of the Australian Film Festival, Latrobe City Council, in conjunction with Big Screen and the National Film and Sound Archive, will be holding a free screening of the film The Black Balloon (Rated M).

A selection of portrait works from Lowanna Secondary College, Newborough is on display until the end of July as part of the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre Foyer Exhibition program.

Latrobe City’s coordinator performing arts and venues, Kathleen Roberts said that the exhibition was called ‘The Almost Archibald Prize’ and that the works were developed last year as part of a school competition with Lowanna students from Years 7 to 11. Read more

Internationally acclaimed classical pianist Roman Rudnytsky will enthral the audience at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre on Thursday, July 30 from 7pm.
