Leading illustrator to visit

Posted on October 16, 2009, 5:05pm

Children and adults from Latrobe City will be given the opportunity to learn more about the magic of writing and drawing directly from one of the craft’s masters, Leigh Hobbs, when he visits Traralgon Library on Wednesday 28 October 2009 from 4pm.

Latrobe City’s children’s services library officer, Noeline Grayden, said that Leigh Hobbs was a well-known artist and author best known for the children’s books he has written and illustrated featuring his characters ‘Old Tom’, ‘Horrible Harriet’, ‘Fiona The Pig’ and ‘Mr Chicken’.

“The animated series ‘Old Tom’ was broadcast on ABC TV as a French — Australian co-production.

“The first session, from 4pm to 5pm will be a children’s drawing session and talk. Children should be over 7 years of age to attend. From 6pm-7pm, Leigh will conduct an author talk for children, adults and educators. After the inspiring talk a light supper will be provided. Leigh will happily mingle and answer any questions,” Ms Grayden said.

“His artwork crosses many boundaries in regard to both content and medium and he was an art teacher for 25 years. Leigh also spent a number of his formative years growing up in Bairnsdale.

“We’re thrilled to have Leigh Hobbs visiting us. We hope that participants will learn about the magic of words directly from him, which will hopefully inspire creativity and a lifelong love of reading and illustrating.”

Leigh’s books will be available for purchase after both events and Leigh will be pleased to sign any copies you may have. Bookings are essential for both events.

This event is proudly sponsored by The Friends of the Library. For any more information, Noeline can be contacted on 5176 3630.
